Henry "Hank" Dettwiler Henry "Hank" Dettwiler , 93, of Freeport, formerly of Warren, Il, was born on October 15, 1909 in Monroe, Wi., the son of Fred and Bertha (Hefty) Dettwilrer. Hank married Helen VanSickle on September 2, 1937. Helen preceded Hank in death on April 26, 1970. On July 1, 1972, Hank married Melva Geach. Hank is survived by his wife, Melva (Geach): two daughters : Delores (Frank) Ward and Ann (Steve) Young: one son, Ronald (Julie) Dettwiler: four step-children: Dick (Janice) Geach, Robert (Nora) Geach, Donna Geach, and Cindy Deyo (and friend, Rod Wolff); twelve gradnchildren: and twelve great grandchildren. Hank was preceded in dealth by his parents, his brother and his sisters. Hank moved to Warren, Il and worked at the DeKalb Seed Plant for 32 years. He was active in the Warren Methodist Church, when he lived in Warren. Hank served in the National Guard. Since retiring , he and Melva spent most winters in Gulf Shores, Al. There he walked the beach and visited with all the folks that worked at the local establishments. Hank was before his time, as he believed in "equality" before it was a household worl. Hank enjoyed golfing and boating in his later years. He was known for his keen sense of humor and enjoyed chatting with everybody. He was the unofficial gounds keeper of Apple Canyon Golf Course. Hank could fix everything. He was a true gentleman and a "gentle" man. The funeral services were held Saturday, March 22, 2003 at the Bartell-Leamon Funeral Home in Warren, Il. with the burial n Elmwood Cemetery, Warren, IL.
