Show Commentary

-

This show has moved into the history books. If you saw it, you know how much all the audiences enjoyed this production. It was one that I could recommend to almost anyone, and know that they would go away with a smile on their face, and feeling better for laughing for two hours.

The Cast worked hard and provided a fantastic show. I can now say that even I was surprised at how much these cast members worked to become the characters, and what a fantastic job they did. A quality of acting skill and timing that even blew me away and I have very high expectations!

I hope you enjoyed the show, and if you didn't, be sure to set aside time on your calendar to enjoy future events. We'll keep working on putting together fantastic entertainment as long as you keep coming and enjoying our work! Coming up... Annie Warbucks

We're all ready for our second weekend of this show! The first weekend met with great success and the audience enjoyed themselves to the max. Now all of us are ready to give the second weekend's audience the same wonderful entertainment. I know that the current show tends to always be a favorite of those involved, but I'm extremely pleased with the quality of the production of this particular show. Most of the actors involved are giving me more character and more incredible performances than they ever have. We're all supposed to grow as we continue to do something, but the growth that has happened with this show is significant. Comments have been wonderful. Keep them coming. More importantly, tell others not to miss this show. Plenty of great seats left. See you at the Opera House!

I've spent the last two nights watching this show grow by leaps and bounds.   I'm finding that even though I've spent the past 7 weeks watching this show, reading this show, living and breathing this show, I'm finding new spots that make me smile and laugh.  Lots of spots make me smile just to think how the audience is going to LOVE that particular scene.

It's come to that point.  We are a show that is desperately in need of an audience.  That means it's up to you now.   If you don't already have your tickets, make that call and get them.   Talk to someone who saw Run for your Wife, then let them know that the director of this production, says it's even funnier!

We are still detailing the set, and finishing up on some props.  It's all pretty much down to a few details however.  I'm ready.  The cast doesn't know it yet, but they're ready too.  If this show keeps growing like it has the past two nights, they're going to have to carry people out on a stretcher!

Perhaps I should have put that warning in the program after all.....

- We're at that frantic busy time, with lots of detail work being done, on lights, sound, set, and the pace and character of the show itself.

This is the time when we really start looking forward to having an audience. We're always surprised at what specific lines get what level of audience reaction, and this is a show that will give you plenty of opportunities to react. Most of those reactions will be side splitting laughter.

We've been at this show for seven weeks now. We are beginning to know it backwards and forwards, but each and every rehearsal we find one more funny bit that we didn't see before. Come early, you may definitely want to come back and see it again, to catch those parts you missed because tears were in your eyes, and the audience was trying so hard to catch their breath that you missed something. Caught in the Net opens this Friday March 31, 2006!

We've been "off book" for a week now, and the cast is actually doing pretty well with their lines. This is a show where there are lots of lines that get repeated, and it is hard to keep track of when and where they go.

The show is coming along very well. This is a talented cast, although I don't let them know that too often... They are doing a good job, but I want them to do a great job so that we can keep up the tradition of shows that you want to share with other people.

Caught in the Net is very well written, and very funny! If we perform this show up to our usual standards, you are absolutely guaranteed to leave the show with your side hurting. There is very little time to catch your breath. The action is real time, and non-stop.

I hope you appreciated the new graphic for the show, done by cast member Cary Kann. If you like his work, and you haven't seen it before, check out his other artwork for previous shows by clicking here.

- We're about 3 1/2 weeks from opening the show and things are going well. We'll be "off book" after this week, which means no more books on stage and everyone should have most of their lines down. This enables us to work on blocking and other movements.

Since the show is in present time, costumes are pretty simple this time around, and there's not too many of us to costume. Barb our costumer was at Wal-Mart the other day and saw Cary (he plays "dad" in the show) working there in the electronic department. She was delighted to find him there as she was looking for one of his costumes...a bathing suit. She picked some out and proceeded to hold them up to him, trying to see what he'd look like in each of them. Cary took it in stride and anyone watching through the cameras probably thought she was just a crazy lady. It's hard to get us all together when we're not on stage, so sometimes Barb has to get creative.

You won't want to miss this show so get your tickets soon if you don't already have them. (Come talk to me after the show. You wouldn't believe the stuff that goes on backstage...)

First rehearsal tonight.   This is going to be one hilarious show.   Good cast, and we even had discussion and work on the set itself.   The show presents some interesting challenges, and we're ready to work them all out to make this one of those shows that makes you wonder when the next time you'll be able to catch a breath.

Be sure to catch your chance to get a ticket.  We're getting ready for you.

After a great deal of discussion, we have finally finished casting this production.  With only three roles available, and lots of qualified interested people, we had a tough time coming to our final decisions.   My thanks to all who wanted to be part of this show.   It tells me just how much people want to be involved in our productions.

I'm very happy with our cast, and anxious to get started with the rehearsals.  We begin this week.   Tickets will be onsale soon for members.  Watch your mail or email for the announcement.  Set aside time to laugh non-stop with Caught in the Net.

- Our first series of tryouts were last evening. We had three boys trying out for the part of Gavin, five girls for the part of Vicki, and one for Stanley's Father. I can tell you right now, that this decision is going to be a very difficult one. Some of the adult members of the cast are already realizing that they are going to have to step up their British accents and acting a notch to compete! We've scheduled a makeup tryout for Thursday Jan 26, 2006 at 7pm. After that the difficult task of picking one boy, one girl, and one Dad. Then the cast is complete and we can get down to the fun part of rehearsing and performing this hilarious show. More to come so stay tuned!

- Tryout dates have been set. January 24, 2006 at 7pm in the Elkader Opera House. We're looking for two teenage kids (boy and girl) around the age of 15. We're also looking for Stanley's father. The remaining four characters of the show will be reprising their roles from the original production.

- Over the weekend, we took a trip down to the Old Creamery Theater and saw another of Ray Cooney's shows, It Runs in the Family. It does follow his familiar pattern. Fortunately, that pattern involves keeping the audience doubled over with belly laughs. It just makes me all the more excited to be bringing you Caught in the Net next spring.

- Get ready for another hilarious spring play by Ray Cooney as the OHP prepares to bring you Caught in the Net the sequel to the wonderful spring 2004 show Run for Your Wife. For 20 years John Smith, taxi driver, has had a happy life with his wife, Mary. He has also had a happy 18 years with his wife Barbara. Well yes, he's a bigamist, and he's got away with it for 18 years!.... That is until John and Mary's teenage son and John and Barbara's teenage daughter accidently meet each other on the internet - and to their amazement, their fathers appear to have rather alot in common.... Now they've got to meet in person... No knowledge of events in Run For Your Wife is needed to enjoy this sequel which is complete within itself.
